Since 2023, the U.S. has imported more beef and veal than it has exported — by a long shot. A recent report compiled by Statista predicts America imported more than 2.7 billion pounds of beef in 2024.

But where is it coming from?

According to the USDA, most beef imported in 2025 comes from Canada, Australia and Brazil (accounting for both processed and fresh beef). Even so, the U.S. receives imports from countries all over the world.

Utahns who prefer their beef come from a local source will find fresh, direct-to-butcher meat from Bar-W Beef.

Their world-class processing facility and storefront in Nephi processes and divides local beef into high-quality cuts — all within the same area as the ranches.

An emphasis on ethical

With an emphasis on ethical farming practices, Bar-W Beef's meat comes from local farms with a focus on creating a low-stress environment for their animals. They believe animals that are raised with care add to the quality of their products.

Additionally, Bar-W Beef recognizes the environmental impact farming has on the earth and incorporates sustainable practices to support the health of local land and resources. They don't believe in wasting anything in the process of bringing the beef to the butcher and ultimately, your table.

Quality

Bar-W Beef is dry-aged, hand-selected, and raised from full-beef genetics—not dairy crosses.

They work with nutritionists to optimize feed and track performance, all to deliver the best, most flavorful beef possible.

No matter what cut you buy, you'll be getting beef that has been aged for 10-14 days for maximum tenderness and flavor.

Happier cows bring happier-tasting and healthier beef!

A variety of cuts are offered

Whether you're in the mood for tender prime rib or you need some ground beef bricks for dinner, there is a cut for every price point and preference.

The Bureau of Labor Services records show the average price per pound of ground chuck in the U.S. in March 2025 was about $5.86.
