SALT LAKE CITY — A woman was arrested over the weekend and accused of luring her ex-boyfriend outside of his house, and then shooting at him.
Ana Dallara Espinoza Melgar, 18, and her cousin Caden Aries, 19, were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault, illegal shooting of a gun, three counts of reckless endangerment and obstruction of justice. Aries was also arrested on suspicion of being a restricted person in possession of a gun and driving on a revoked license.
Salt Lake police were called to a home near 1200 South and 900 West at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
"The victim stated he was standing outside when he observed his ex-girlfriend in the front passenger seat, and her male cousin driving the Chevrolet Impala. The victim said his ex-girlfriend had called him on the phone, and he came outside and was standing in the front yard," according to a police booking affidavit. "The victim stated he turned to walk back into his house when he heard four to five gunshots, and then the Impala drove south along 900 West."
Officers responding to the house found a tree in the front yard damaged by gunshots, but no injuries were reported, the affidavit states. While police were on scene, the Impala drove by again and the victim pointed it out to officers.
Police followed the vehicle and pulled it over. Aries was found in the driver's seat and Melgar was in the passenger seat, according to the arrest report. Officers also reported finding a shell casing in the vehicle and a gun nearby that appeared to have been thrown out the window.
"The victim also had messages he sent to (Melgar) on his phone after the incident, telling her she was going to be caught by the police. The victim said he had been on the phone with (her) and she lured him outside," according to police.
