LEHI — A 14-year-old girl from Lehi was hit by a car while leaving a youth dance at Lehi's rodeo grounds Friday night.

David Colqui, patrol supervisor with the Lehi Police Department, said the vehicle was traveling south on 500 West near 100 North at 11:13 p.m. He said multiple people called 911 to report the incident. Witnesses and police officers gave medical aid to the girl until paramedics arrived.

She was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance and then flown from there to a hospital in Salt Lake City. A statement from Lehi City said she suffered significant head trauma from the crash, but an update on her condition was not available Saturday.

Colqui said the girl was crossing the street, it appears, by herself, and was not in a crosswalk. Police are still trying to determine what speed the car was going.

"The thoughts and prayers of our department are with the patient, her family and others affected by this incident," he said.

The driver cooperated with the police, and according to the statement, the investigation is ongoing, with charges not yet filed, Coqui said.

He said the event involved multiple regions of youth and was hosted by local congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
