SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake police officer is facing a criminal charge accusing him of contacting a former girlfriend after their relationship ended.
Todd Douglas Goodsell, 40, was charged with one count of stalking a current or former cohabitant, a third-degree felony.
The former girlfriend told police she ended her relationship with Goodsell in November 2024. She said Goodsell continued to attempt to contact her "through various means, including text, email, phone calls and several apps," according to charging documents.
She asked Goodsell on Jan. 3, Jan. 17, and Jan. 22 to stop contacting her, the court documents state.
"Following (her) first request to stop contacting her, Goodsell emailed or texted (her) more than 52 times," charging documents state. Goodsell used 10 different phone numbers to try to contact the woman, according to the prosecutors.
The woman told police she moved, changed her phone number and email address and asked her employer to apply a filter to prevent Goodsell from contacting her at work, the charges state.
The woman told police she was concerned her life was in danger.
Emails from Goodsell to the woman threatened that he would commit suicide, according to charging documents.
The Utah Attorney General's Office requested that Goodsell be detained before his trial and be held without bail.
