IN THE THIN AIR — Golf at elevation is even more wild when players like Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau are involved.
There are long drives, and then there's whatever Rahm did on the 462-yard, par-4 13th hole at the LIV Golf event in Mexico City.
The native Spaniard raked his tee shot some 400 yards , over the dogleg left of the fairway and about 27 feet from the hole in the second round of the event at Chapultepec Golf Club, which sits at 7,800 feet in elevation.
Rahm made birdie on the hole, his fourth of five in the round en route to a fourth-place finish in the three-day tournament.

But the 30-year-old Arizona State graduate and two-time major champion wasn't the only golfer hitting bombs in the thin air of Mexico City. Only a day earlier, DeChambeau ripped his tee shot 391 yards on the par-4, 396-yard first hole before the reigning U.S. Open champion celebrated his birdie with the type of celebratory joy that has become common on the casual, laid-back LIV Golf series.
DeChambeau, who said he would experiment with "some new equipment" after faltering to Rory McIlroy down the stretch at the Masters, shot 13-under to finish tied for second in the event, three shots behind tournament wer Joaquin Niemann. Rahm's team, Legion XIII, finished first with three golfers inside the top 12.

It may not happen on the PGA Tour any time soon. But golf at elevation, it turns out, is quite fun.
LIV Golf continues its world-wide series in Korea next week, the final tournament for the golfers that play outside the PGA Tour to qualify for the U.S. Open on June 12–15 at Oakmont Country Club.
